Anniversary

Wollongong by Anne Bryant (19/03/2004)

Just found an internet cafe, so thought I would give you a sketchy account of last night.

Well....... it was absolutely unbelievable. He had me captivated right from the first note. I can't remember all the songs, as I was off in la la land. He opened with the same song as his last tour, then sang all his old favourites. Memphis, Something inside so strong, ETEC Phantom, Gethsemane, Boy from Nowhere, Bread of heaven, etc etc. Someone will fill you in on the song list - I just can't think at the moment.

We have met him twice at the stage door, what a generous man, and afterwards at the post party. where it was rather hard to get close to him.

He looked gorgeous, dressed in all black for the first half, with a black suit, white shirt and his spangly black tie for the second half.

His guest artist is a lovely young lady, who played Christine over here, and has an incredible voice. Michael had a huge grin on his face, and lifted his eyebrows in a typical Groucho Marks type leer when he came to join her for the two duets from Phantom.

I have taken HEAPS of photos and when I get back home to Melbourne, I will try to figure out how to up-load them. As I was centre front, I was lucky to get some rather nice shots.

Well, round two tonight, the theatre is sold out, and are selling standing room only - but I think they are sold out now too.

The backing singers were brilliant, as was the orchestra, directed, of course, by Callum.

Will finish now, and will give a more detailed account when I get home.
