This was a sneaky one: Michael Ball, Superstar of the London musical theatre, and not that well known outside of it, played one night at the South Bank Lyric. After a languid first half, Ball went to bat in the second half, slamming into the showbiz songs that elevated his fame. Stonkered into euphoria by his consummate vocal power the audience ran emotionally amok. By the end of the night the spunky star had yanked 2000 bodies out of their seats, holding them aloft through lengthy ovations: 24 carat star shine is as rare as it is awesome. A true stunner!
