Michael Ball to get own TV chat show

~ Wales Online by Rachel Mainwaring - 04/07/10 ~

WEST End star and radio presenter Michael Ball has been given his own chat show.

The performer – best known for his work in musical theatre – will front an ITV1 daytime show later this summer that will see him joined by celebrity guests and occasionally sing for his audience.

The singer, whose mum was Welsh and who is currently touring with Hairspray, said: “I'm hugely excited to be joining ITV.

“This show is a great challenge, which I hope will be lots of fun and feature lots of old friends as well as some new ones. I'm really looking forward to getting started.”

It seems Michael's recent stint as a judge on Dancing on Ice, as well as previous This Morning presenting duties, has made him hot property and he has a massive fan base.

Michael gained previous presenting experience alongside Fern Britton on This Morning during 2007 and he stepped in to replace Dancing On Ice judge Robin Collins on the ice panel for a week during this year's competition.

And ITV, which is re-launching its Daytime brand, is hoping his infectious personality will guarantee success.

Alison Sharman, ITV's director of Factual, Daytime and GMTV, told us: “Michael Ball is one of the country's best-known and loved entertainers.

“His personality and charm will shine as he brings this new show to our summer schedule packing it with all the style of variety our daytime viewers enjoy.”

And David Hall, series editor of The Michael Ball Show, agreed: “Michael is a showbiz legend – it's in his blood.

“He is an absolute natural in front of the camera, has incredible warmth, and this show promises to bring a smile to everyone's face. It's the perfect afternoon treat.”

Known for his warm personality and great sense of fun, Michael's show will be a topical mix of entertainment, discussion and showbiz glamour with the occasional musical treat thrown in from the man himself.

Each weekday Michael will be chatting with established showbiz personalities as well as introducing a variety of rising stars.

Guest experts will join him to discuss topics of the day and he will learn how to cook from a host of famous culinary faces.

The 48-year-old, who lives with former Ready, Steady, Go! star Cathy McGowan, will also be spotlighting the people who have hit the headlines and meeting some of the country's unsung heroes.

He said: “I can't wait. I'm very excited.”
