This amazing voice you've got. Has
it been trained, hasn't it? |
Michael |
Something I know, I have always sung.
Given my family, a very musical, with a great Welsh background. My
uncle sings with a male voice choir that kind of things. Iīve always been surrounded by music and Iīve always sung, but it has never been trained and to be honest when
I first started of in the business at drama school I never thought I'd use
it. It was just something I loved to do. And to be able to make money
doing something you love to do is marvelous. |

Does the thought of having to fill the Prince of Wales Theatre frighten you? |
Michael |
We got a huge advance, already about
two and a half of million and ... people say it's a guaranteed
succes, but not at all there are people who have booked their tickets who
have heard nothing and know nothing about the show and are expecting it to
be the best show in London and we are gonna endeavour to do
that, it's a hell of responsibility. |
Cathy |
When did you first hear this song? |
Michael |
Love Changes everything? Must have
been last May or June, just before we started work for the Sydmonton
festival and
as soon as I heard it, I thought itīs a fabulous tune, fabulous. And then
having heard
the rest of the score I could not believe he's done it again. He has got a
magnificent score, wonderful lyrics by Don Black and Charly Hart and it's
up to us now, we gotta do something with it. It's wonderful |
|
Don Black's comment
on Michael then: |
Heīs one of the finest voices thatīs come on the scene in the last 20
years. I also think heīs interesting because not since Tom Jones I think of as someone come along who could explode on
the scene (sorry, itīs a quote, that is literally what Mr. Black said!)
Heīs young,heīs 26,he has a fine voice,an ingredient we havenīt seen lately in pop
music. People usually donīt talk about great singers these days, they talk about great records.I think Michael could change
all that.

(back in studio): Isn't he something else? he's such a nice bloke as well, I mean you've all gotta...[ I assume the next bit is something like 'go and see the show
' but my copy cuts out there!] |
