Why am I late with picture and story?
Because SO many people wanted to see me with THAT hat - so I thought I might as well put it up for everyone to see (and have a good laugh J ). And yes, in a way it's Michael's fault anyway...
Sabine 'It's nice to know we're amongst' FRENZ
Considering the fact that I'm most comfortable in the background just HOW Kerstin managed to persuade me to share 'my' story with the whole virtual world, I don't know...
When we began...it was 1989, a (lazy) Sunday afternoon and while I was doing my homework the then black and white telly was tuned to BFBS TV, but I wasn't watching - until I heard the opening bars of 'Love Changes'. I thought: 'Hang on, that's pretty different' and decided to turn around - and the rest as they so often like to say is history...
It took me another three years (with two Royal Varieties thrown in for good measure) - until Eurovision - to get things going and finally see Michael on a colour TV! And I will not go into details of how difficult it was to get CDs, never mind more info, especially since I didn't have a clue about musicals. I now do...allegedly J .
1996 was THE year when at last I had enough, threw caution to the wind and went to see 'Passion' and the person from TV, pictures and CDs 'in the flesh'. Why did it take so long? Not my fault really...concert dates in the middle of a semester are just not practical, exams and concerts don't mix too well and if you just lack courage that's just the way it goes (ok, point taken, that last one IS my fault...)
So, what to do?
Simple: ask the German government to give you the grants and move to the UK for a year to study for an MSc at Cranfield University. Aha, I hear you say, THAT hat. Exactly. And for once, the dates fit perfectly, with the NEC being the very first (on Good Friday, and what a good friday it was!) and Castle Howard being the last of my own 8-date-Michael-Ball-spring-come-summer-tour. And remember the things about exams and concerts? Yes, I had one sandwiched between the two Northampton gigs...I got an 'A' so there you go J .
Music and memories was the theme of the 1999 tour and Michael's introductory words to 'Love Changes' summed it up quite nicely: '...10 years ago it was in the charts...and it really changed my life, I'm probably here because of this song...' I've got nothing to add to that.
So, thank you to the British Forces Germany.
Thank you Kerstin, for giving me this opportunity.
And thank you Michael.
Sabine
